Originating in downtown Boston, Washington Street, a one-time fortification, was named in honor of George Washington who rode through it during his tour of New England in October 1789, and extends southwestward to the Rhode Island state line.

And in much like other districts, pays tribute to the wide range of old and new, conservative and avant-garde.
